the sunset bridge

oil on canvas, 18 x 24 inches

this painting seemed to take me forever to finish, i think because of all the browns. of course, i don't actually use brown paint, but a mixture of deep mauve, mineral turquoise, and jaune brilliant. the williamsburg bridge is a powerful visual element in my daily life as i live very near the foot of the bridge. its usually the first thing i see when i venture out in the morning and the last thing i see when i come home at night. lately, my exercise routine has been walking over the bridge each morning.

i made this painting last fall. the source image was of my friend samara talking to a filmmaker she worked with outside roebling hall. i ended up cropping samara out of the painting, though. in the end, i decided the filmmaker looks like bryan ferry.

the floating bridge
