this is the first in a series of photos of the subdivision my parents have moved to in sequim, washington. i took several photos of the half-completed homes in the long summer dusk. it's a nice change from working on the moody angles of brooklyn after dark to have the bright shapes of the west coast.
two years ago, i was invited to participate in a swimming pool show at local williamsburg gallery Open Ground. the curators distributed several snapshots they'd taken of a swimming pool in southern california, and asked the artists to use the images as inspiration. i made two paintings for the show, and this is the one i kept. recently, i noticed how damaged the varnish layer was and decided to retouch it. i ended up just repainting the entire painting.
