chessdiagram

this is the diagram that yiannis and steven and i used to keep track of the players in the williamsburg game. i used post-it notes with each piece's name and phone number on them, and we mirrored the action on the real chess board the players were using.

thanks again!

game headquarters

12jour

we are currently planning a human scale chess game for sunday, may 16. there are still several roles available. sign up now to play a role. you must have a working cellphone to participate.

we will be meeting to start the game at noon. everyone should meet at game headquarters at the start of the game to collect a t-shirt and check in. game HQ will be where the master game is played. game headquarters will be at 14 Dunham Place. i will be posting a map of the entire game board shortly.

for more about the mechanics of the game itself, and to learn how to play, see the main humanchess page.

Directions to Dunham Place

dunham place is a small, one block street perpendicular to the williamsburg bridge. i have noticed that it does not appear on the mapquest maps so i am providing directions to dunham place here.

from participant, inc., walking over the williamsburg bridge
one easy way to get to dunham place from participant, inc. is to walk over the williamsburg bridge. the walk takes 20-30 minutes.

  • walk east on rivington st to essex. turn right.
  • walk a block to delancey st. cross delancey street. you will see the bridge.
  • walk across the williamsburg bridge.
  • the south walkway is open.
  • you will exit onto bedford ave. turn right.
  • make the next possible right turn onto south 6th street.
  • walk three blocks to dunham place.

by subway
the most common mode of transit to williamsburg is the L train. unfortunately, the L train is not running this weekend. the G train is a good alternative for those coming from brooklyn. from manhattan, the J train is your best bet.

  • take the J train into brooklyn.
  • off at the first brooklyn stop, marcy ave.
  • exit onto broadway.
  • walk back the way you came under the train on broadway.
  • walk about 7 blocks to bedford avenue.
  • cross bedford ave and continue about 3 more blocks to dunham place.
  • take the G train to metropolitan.
  • exit at union ave.
  • turn left on metropolitan and walk under the BQE.
  • walk about 6 blocks to bedford ave.
  • left on bedford.
  • walk about seven blocks to the williamsburg bridge.
  • walk under the bridge.
  • make the next possible right turn onto south 6th street.
  • walk three blocks to dunham place.
